Leading Youth Forward (LYF) is a registered charity established in 2011 which provides over 80 at-risk Perth teenagers with mentors and positive experiences.
Our organisation was inspired by Uni Camp for Kids Inc (UCFK), Perth’s oldest registered children’s charity run through the University of Western Australia. We were originally known as Uni Camp For Teens, but changed our name to Leading Youth Forward in 2014. We offer an extension to the support and experiences that UCFK provides for disadvantaged children.
Through our program, teens are carefully matched with a mentor who provides one-on-one support and encouragement to build confidence, nurture personal growth and positively influence their teen at a critical stage in their life.
Over the course of the year, our mentor and teens together attend a weekend camp and four Big Day Out events hosted by LYF. Through such events, teens and their mentor partake in a diverse range of fun and challenging activities that help build the relationships as well as provide exciting opportunities that they otherwise may not have had.
The services we provide are also aimed at providing respite for family members, which is especially valuable if teens comes from a large family, place high demand on family members’ time and attention or when there are other special circumstances.
LYF is distinguished from many other charities in being entirely run and staffed by volunteers, so every dollar raised goes directly to where it can make a difference.
