May 2016

LYF held its Annual General Meeting on 14 May on the evening of Big Day Out 1. The AGM is an opportunity for LYF’s volunteers to get together to receive an update on the organisation’s progress and future direction, and volunteers have the opportunity to nominate for election to the management committee. It was great to see a number of new faces nominate for positions this year, and we are considering ways in which to encourage more and more volunteers to get involved on the committee and as officers in years to come.

Two of last year’s committee members have retired from committee positions, but we’re sure they won’t become strangers! Reid Smith has been LYF’s Publicity and Marketing Manager for the last few years and is now embarking on an international career in the film industry.  Monique James has been the Youth Events Manager for the past year, organising our amazing camp and Big Day Out events, but we are stoked that she will continue volunteering with LYF (hopefully for a long time!) Big shout out to these two rock stars, who have put in so much hard work and have contributed so much to LYF’s successes!

Dr Ciara Stapleton is also retiring from the position of President, although she’s not going far and will be staying on the committee as Past President. Massive thankyou to the amazing Ciara, cheerleader extraordinaire and all-round LYF legend!

Now, with out further to do, meet the new committee for 2016/17!

Heather McIntyre, President:

Heather began volunteering with LYF in 2012, and joined the committee as Fundraising Manager in 2014.  She is a lawyer at HLS Legal by day, and has had great times with her mentee Shakira learning archery, watching the Jungle Book, doing laser tag, and of course at LYF's weekend camps and Big Days Out.

Aimee Dawson, Vice President:

Aimee is returning to her role as VP in 2016 and has been volunteering with LYF since its inception in 2011.  This year she is based in beautiful Broome working in paediatric care while enjoying the pristine beaches and outback.

Zac Leeson, Treasurer:

Zac will be returning as Treasurer for 2016 after successfully managing LYF into it best financial position yet. Zac is a financial planner for HPH solutions and is looking forward to another great year on the Executive committee.

Juliet Williamson, Volunteer Manager:

Juliet has been an active volunteer with LYF since its inception in 2011, and had many years of experience volunteering with LYF's sister charity UCFK, including two years on the committee as a general member in 2008 and 2009.  As well as being our legendary Volunteer Manager, Juliet has been studying a Bachelor of Secondary Education, inspired by the great times had volunteering with these two charities.

Eva-Victoria Bates, Publicity & Marketing Manager:

Eva is currently a media planner at the Brand Agency. She will bring her experience in the adverting industry to increase LYFs presence across all platforms. She has been a mentor with LYF since its inception and previously served as Vice President in 2012/13 as well as XXX manager in 2011.  While at UWA Eva completed a BA in Communications and a Diploma of Education and brings a wide range of understanding to her new role, invigorating LYF's image in the WA community.

Jono Wood, Development Manager:

Jono has been with LYF for the last 3 years.  He stepped up to the Development role last year and will continue his great work again this year.  As the development and training manager Jono will source and provide career development opportunities for teens who wouldn’t necessarily get them. He also helps put together the mentor training for new and existing volunteers as well as developing our feedback and education systems. Jono has worked in management roles professionally for 10 years.  He aslo has a Certificate IV in Training and Education, so he has the experience and commitment to make a real difference at LYF to help grow our organisation as we get bigger in future years.

Cathy Rcciardone, Youth Events Manager:

This is Cathy's first year with LYF but she has been working with children and teens for over ten years now.  She is an experienced teacher having worked in rural Australia, Central America and is now based in Perth.  She likes sports and confesses to playing, coaching and umpiring nearly every team sport there is.  She will be excellent in her new role making LYF events even bigger and better.

Georgia Kyros, Fundraising Manager:

Georgia will be overseeing the grant and sponsorship applications critical to running LYF.  Helping finance our Camps, Big Days Out and all the other opportunities LYF provides for our teens.  This is her first year volunteering with LYF but she has been volunteering with Uni Camp For Kids over the last five years. She has also been involved in a range of other youth work projects while studying Law at Curtin University.  Georgia will fit right in to continue the amazing success LYF has had with its fundraising efforts.
