Saturday 29th of November, 2014 was a special day for Leading Youth Forward. It was the first time a Big Day Out event had been organised and run by the teens!! (with a little help from Sorcha Stapleton)
The theme for the day was a Christmas Lunch celebration. The Youth Committee, on behalf of all teens, wanted to celebrate the end of another great year with their friends and family. The day was designed to encourage more one on one time for teens and mentors and what a great day it was! An early scavenger hunt was followed by cooking and preparing lunch in small groups. The salads, savouries and sweets prepared by the teens and their mentors provided the ultimate Christmas feast.
The lunch was devoured at the Swanbourne Surf Life Saving Club. Even Santa made a special appearance on the BBQ. The beach was a welcome relief from the barmy conditions, perfect for the Australian Christmas theme.
Sadly, for some of the teens, it would be their last BDO with LYF. That afternoon the senior teens graduated from the LYF program. We wish them all the best in their future and we hope what they have learned from LYF will help them succeed in their endeavours. We also acknowledged a number of teens who have shown particular dedication to LYF by attending all Big Day Out events and Camp.
Congratulations to the Youth Committee and Sorcha Stapleton for organising such a wonderful event. The bar has been set high for next years Youth Committee to organise something just as fun. So if you think your teen or someone you know should be considered, encourage them to nominate!
