Hi everyone! I am so excited to take on the role of President in 2016/17, and am pleased to report that there are fantastic things happening at LYF left right and centre!
The year got off to a great start with our Beach LYF camp and the election of our Youth Committee, and Big Day Out 1 was also a huge success. Our second Big Day Out is not far off, and we are looking forward to an epic day of development and team building activities inspired by the Olympics, with a focus on sportsmanship, fair play and celebrating our achievements.
LYF’s management committee are also hard at work on a number of exciting behind the scenes projects, streamlining our processes and improving governance. These include developing a comprehensive volunteer handbook to ensure our mentors and volunteers feel prepared for their role and supported, as well as reviewing and redesigning the training/induction program run at the beginning of each year.
LYF is also developing a handbook for teens and parents to increase engagement and to support and strengthen the mentoring relationship. LYF’s Health Officer Kathryn Boon is chipping away at improving LYF’s resources and practices with respect to providing first aid, nursing and medical services at our youth events, and mentor Luc Tasker has taken on the big job of facilitating a Duke of Edinburgh project for senior teens. And that is just a glimpse!
It is awesome to see our volunteers and teens buzzing on LYF this year, and I am confident that these and other initiatives will have a tangible impact on the quality of LYF’s mentoring relationships, ultimately helping to empower and enhance the lives of at-risk youth. I look forward to another fantastic and successful year for LYF, and would love to chat about any opportunities or ideas you have to improve and enrich the services LYF offers. I wholeheartedly encourage you to get involved – this year’s going to be a ripper!
